| >"The Whitechapel Foundation is chartered to document and investigate reports of paranormal events and crytozoological entities." (supernatural and occult phenomena) <br/>Ethan Grant, their most recent hire, has been placed in charge of the "Open Cases" project, which is designed to foster collaboration and input from the public on certain investigations. Within a short span of time, he placed two cases on the Web site, both involving mysterious notes that were left at or otherwise found by Whitechapel.
They announced the existence of the project by sending emails out to players from another ARG, OverWatch , run by a business partner, Djinn Productions. The idea behind the "Open Cases" project was ostensibly to tap into the vast collective knowledge & skills of the hive mind in the wilds of the Internets. They wanted to attract people who like research, who like weird mysteries, who like puzzles and codes; in short: ARG players. Thus Whitechapel was able to actually reference ARGs (briefly) in-game, without actually crossing the line. Quite clever, really...
The investigation has led us to some odd events in St. Petersburg, Florida, surrounding what appears to be some kind of summoning ritual. Then we were contacted by two other people/groups, each with unknown motives, identities and plans. We hesitated to reveal some of this to Ethan, since Whitechapel seems to be more in the archiving/debunking business than in thwarting dangerous occultists. When we did finally come clean, Whitechapel quite calmly but firmly announced that they would have nothing further to do with the events in St. Pete's. And this is where it gets interesting...

Whitechapel has connections to Djinn Productions, which produced the game Overwatch, the interactive story Autumn Country, and various other things. Overwatch, to hear some Whitechapel players tell it, had some fiendishly difficult puzzles (Finnish xenocipher, wot?), and Whitechapel certainly seems to be living up to that legacy so far. Collaboration amongst the players (and even between players and characters) has proven to be absolutely essential.
As far as we can tell, the Whitechapel Foundation exists in the Autumn Country universe. Reading those stories for background makes as much sense for a starting place as anything else.
